Realms of Endless Day was commissioned by the University of Oklahoma Flute Ensemble in Spring 2010. The work is a type of reverse theme and variations, or a set of "variations and then theme." It uses the Nettleton hymn tune as its source material, which begins slowly and transitions into a recognizable version of the tune.
